7 out of 10 Americans use social media to stay in contact, read news, share information, and for entertainment. Only 5% of Americans used social media in 2005, currently 69% do. Young adults were the first users of social media but now their numbers are matched by older adults. Facebook has the most users followed by Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and LinkedIn. Social media is a daily routine for about half of all users. College graduates and those of higher income levels have a slightly larger number of users. Men and women are fairly equal in usage.
